This small project initially appear to be very strait forward job. Simple bathroom refurbishment including extra shower in the place of removed chimney breast.
The problem was that when the chimney was removed, it left us a “hole in the wall”.
We had to act quick. Jack is an engineer so idea was to do it in engineered way. We didn't want to give up and wanted to stick to the design.
Came the idea to cantilever the corner to get extra space needed to fit shower tray. Corner was created as insulated timber frame on Pre-stressed lintel fixed inside the brick wall. Externally walls was sealed and rendered with matching rendering, chimney stack was removed and roofs re- done to make all watertight and good looking.
The final effect of the bathroom replacement were excellent. Natural stone (traveltino) tiles and mosaic gives the effect.
Also new plumbing for bathroom as well as new electric installation and energy efficient down lights.
Bathroom gained extra space of about 0.5m2 but for this room it was a crucial space
